By KUALA LUMPUR: The government is looking into sanitising public buildings regularly to prevent outbreaks of the Covid-19 virus, says Zuraida Kamaruddin (pic).
The Housing and Local Government Minister said the authorities were looking into setting up a regular programme to disinfect public buildings to prevent Covid-19 cases from rising further.
“We are looking at the trends and although there are no huge spikes, I will instruct the Fire and Rescue Department to implement a sanitisation programme and revisit public places that are in need of it.
“We are looking into the possibility of imposing a standard operating procedure in the future, where every public building will undergo sanitisation every six months or once a year, to make sure the place is hygienic and to curb Covid-19,” she said.
She added that local councils will also be doing their part to ensure that the current SOPs are being enforced in their areas, especially as masks are being made compulsory in public places starting Aug 1.
Zuraida said this at the opening of the Pei You library at the Kampung Baru Salak South community hall on Sunday (July 26).
The library, she said, was built with a RM100,000 allocation that she approved last year.
“The community can use the library during their free time, to bring children here to read books.
“It is a good model and I hope that it can be a model for other New Villages under the Housing and Local Government Ministry,” she said.
Saying that it was the first such library built at a New Village community hall, she hoped it could also be done at the 613 New Villages under the ministry nationwide.
