AirAsia turns its famous nasi lemak into an ice cream

Fans of AirAsia’s piping hot in-flight nasi lemak can now enjoy it cold…as an ice cream.

To celebrate Merdeka and Malaysia Day, the local carrier – through Santan Restaurant – has partnered with local ice-cream artisan, Crème De La Crème (CDLC) for a limited-time promotion of Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak ice-cream.

The Nasi Lemak ice-cream replicates the taste profile of Santan’s famous Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak sambal by using the same chilli paste. The sambal is then swirled into a creamy coconut-based ice cream topped with crunchy ikan bilis and peanuts.

“We look forward to taking our top-selling Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak meal, which has sold almost 20,000 units since our restaurant opened, to the next level as a dessert,” said Santan general manager Catherine Goh.

The Pandan Dodol ice cream is also introduced alongside the nasi lemak variant.

Traditional dodol is churned into a creamy coconut ice cream, with freshly toasted coconut flakes adding both aroma and texture to the delicious dessert.

“We cannot wait for all Malaysians to try our two very unique Malaysian flavours!” said CDLC managing director Lio Lim.

Both ice flavours come in a single-serve cup and are available at Santan Mid Valley and Sunway Pyramid outlets.

They are also available in scoops at CDLC’s Uptown Damansara and Mont Kiara outlets. – The Star
