By Kuala Lumpur, 16 August – Institute for Medical Research of Malaysia (IMR) have detected a new virus mutation, D614G. The new virus mutation was found from 3 cases of quarantine sessions under the cluster of monitored patients (PUI) in Sivagangga and another case was found in the Ulu Tiram Cluster.
The director of General Health, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah encourages people to be more aware and be careful as the mutation of COVID-19, D614G have been detected in Malaysia.
“It has found that the virus is 10 times easier to infect others as if it is a super spreader individual.”
“As for now, there are 2 clusters found with the new virus mutation, but both of the clusters are under control as we reacted effectively and efficiently in stopping the virus from spreading. There will be a few tests to be done and there will be some follow up for the other cases, including the index cases from both clusters mentioned above,” stated in Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah’s Facebook on Sunday.
Furthermore, the mutation of D416G is found by the scientist in July 2020 and it probably caused the research on the vaccine to be unsuccessful and ineffective in fighting the virus.
Therefore, Dr. Noor Hisham advises the people to stick and follow with the precautionary actions and stay aware in applying the Standards of Procedures that been given, such as social distancing, self-cleanliness and wear a face mask.
The situation of COVID-19 in Malaysia is still under control, the Minister of General Health and the other related agencies are working hard to curb the transmission of COVID-19. – Siakap Keli
